American College to Offer Blackjack Career Training

Jul 28, 2010

People in the United States interested in pursuing a career as a blackjack dealer now have another option available to them when it comes to receiving proper training. The Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) northeastern Pennsylvania will begin offering both blackjack and poker courses this fall, providing complete training for careers in the world of casino gambling.

With Pennsylvania casinos now offering table games as a result of a recent change to local gambling laws, blackjack and poker dealers are in high demand. Since the legalization of blackjack tables in early July, the Mohegan Sun Casino, for example, has hired over 300 new dealers, and intends to hire many more.

The blackjack course will be offered at a cost of approximately $1000, and will involve 120 hours of class time over the course of five weeks. Students will master blackjack rules and blackjack strategy, and will be taught dealer etiquette as well. Dealing blackjack is quite a lot different than playing blackjack, so even students who have spent time at the local casinos, or who have played online blackjack games, will still have a lot to learn.

Neighboring states New York, New Jersey, West Virginia, Delaware and Ohio also offer legal table games at their local casinos, so graduates of LCCC’s blackjack training course stand a good chance of being hired shortly after receiving their blackjack dealer certification.
