Malta’s First Casino is First to Go Mobile

Forty years after opening Dragonara Casino embraces online and mobile gambling.
In the year 1964, when the daddy of the Internet (i.e. the ARPANET) was still in the process of being conceived, Malta’s first casino opened its doors in an effort to attract tourists to the Mediterranean island.
Almost 40 years later, the union of Dragonara Casino and the Internet has produced an offspring: Malta’s newest online casino.
Dragonara, the largest of the country’s three brick-and-mortar establishments, has contracted UK-based iGaming software provider EveryMatrix to set up their new gambling site, complete with over 700 games from well-known developers (IGT, Microgaming, NetEnt, Sheriff Gaming, Betsoft and more).
These games will include a wagonload of slots, as well as classic favorites, from online blackjack to poker and roulette.
The company’s Casino Engine solution integrates these titles into a single wallet, offering a bonus and FPP allocation option from one back-office across multiple vendors.
The agreement will also see Dragonara becoming the first truly domestic operator to offer mobile casino games on Malta. The games will use HTML5 in order to be accessible from any mobile device.
“EveryMatrix is happy and proud to be assisting Dragonara Casino make the transition into online gaming. There’s great potential to provide players visiting the Dragonara Casino the opportunity to extend the land-based casino experience online. Dragonara Casino is an established, strong and trusted brand in gaming and we are excited that we will support them to go online,” said EveryMatrix CEO, Ebbe Groes.
Johann Sembri, MD of Dragonara Interactive opined that moving online was “a natural step forward for the Dragonara Casino.”
He also provided a broader perspective on Dragonara casino strategy. “Through the launch of our Online Gaming Portal we will provide easy access to thousands of patrons visiting the Casino to play their favourite casino games online. The investment in online forms part of a broader strategy for the Casino as it continues to expand its operations with the aim of creating the Premier Entertainment destination in the Mediterranean,” said Sembri.
