David A. Hayes Indicted After Blackjack Win and Subsequent Robbery

It’s been a pretty eventful time for David A. Hayes of Columbus. The frequenter of Hollywood Casino Columbus thought he’d come up with some pretty smart strategies as he managed to win $35,800 playing blackjack at the casino. It wasn’t to be, though, as soon after cashing out he was robbed of the full amount by armed robbers who followed him home.

Oh, and as if that wasn’t enough, Hayes has now been indicted for theft. Turns out that his blackjack strategy wasn’t so much to do with the cards, instead being more to do with precious metals he allegedly stole. Oops.

Hayes worked as a jeweler at a local jewelry store, so police became suspicious when he traded in precious metals worth $107,000 at a gold brokers. Well, I’d be pretty suspicious with that too, to be fair.

Turns out he then used it to buy $99,000 worth of chips at the casino, chips which helped to finance his wins. That’s not enough for Hayes, though, as he’s suing the casino for negligence over the robbery, which is pretty apt considering it’s likely the chips were bought using money gained from stolen goods. Perhaps if he’d stuck to online blackjack he wouldn’t have been robbed in the first place.
