Bad News for Man Crèche Fans in Camden Town
Jan 9, 2014
Samvo closed its “man crèche” betting shop in Camden Town, due to inability to meet revenue targets.
The unfortunate gambling news comes particularly hard on all people who don’t find Christmas shopping particularly pleasant and prefer to leave it to their partner, while they focus on betting.
Samvo tried to influence high street gambling by introducing smart “betting cafés”. They had sofas and touchscreen terminals unlike the traditional hectic bookies. It was not surprising its Hammersmith branch won an industry award for best designed outlet of 2013.
Samyo used some “smart strategies” to boost the shop’s “man crèche” profits, like employing “Sexy Santas”. They were women in provocative outfits who had to attract more customers during the holiday season. This move didn’t help preventing the closure of the shop.
The great idea didn’t turn successful in Camden Town
Sheetal Randev, Brand manager at Samvo, explained the details of the concept: “The Samvo Man Crèche isn’t just for guys – it’s been designed to help women as well. Who wants to hear their partner complaining about how much they’re spending or how much longer we’re going to be shopping?”
Victor Gomes, Head of risk and compliance at Samvo, commented recently: “Our Camden shop did not reach the revenues we had hoped for and therefore the decision to close the shop on Friday, December 13 was taken. Camden customers are welcome to visit our branch in Hammersmith.”
