Playboy Casino and Poker Room Shutting Down
Jan 19, 2009
Playboy Casino Closing
As of January 29th, the famous Playboy Casino and Poker Room will close its doors. After that date, the online gambling site will accept no new players, and all existing players will no longer have access to their accounts. It is not currently known whether this is a temporary action resulting from the current economic climate in the US, or whether the closure is permanent.
Part of the problem could be the fact that while the Playboy brand is quite popular in the US, the Playboy Casino has never accepted US players. They wanted to, but just weeks before the casino opened back in 2007, their software provider CryptoLogic was forced to turn their backs on US players. Playboy took the challenge in stride, and has been trying to capture players in Europe and elsewhere, where the Playboy brand is recognized but is not as well-known as in the US. It seems this has not been working.
Still, the situation is puzzling since it seems that there are changes on the horizon which could open new doors for US internet casinos. But these are also troubling times for the Playboy company in general. The current CEO Chrsitie Hefner is stepping down from her position at the end of the month, and there are rumors of big changes in the company.
It’s a shame to lose the Playboy Casino, they had some excellent blackjack games. If anyone was a member there, you will need to find a new place to play. For other top internet casinos that offer the same CryptoLogic games, you should check here.
