Apple iPod Touch Number One for Mobile Gaming, Says Steve Jobs
Sep 22, 2010
iPod Touch is #1
Earlier this month, Apple guru Steve Jobs made a categorical statement about the company’s iPod Touch mobile device, calling it “the #1 portable game player in the world”.
He backed this up by showing that Apple controls as much as 50 percent market share on mobile gaming devices, outselling both Sony PSP and Nintendo DS combined.
With yesterday’s launch of the new Apple Games site, the company’s hold on the mobile gaming industry may continue to grow. The new site is a central portal for Apple mobile gaming, offering reviews and points of purchase for games designed to run on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The site will work as a compliment to the Apple Apps store, which has already seen 1.5 billion mobile game and entertainment downloads over the years.
One game sector that Apple has yet to officially embrace is the world of iPhone gambling. There are no real-money iPhone casino games for download at either the Apps Store or the new Apple Games site. Yet there are a number of reputable iPhone casinos and iPad casinos on the internet that let players download and play games like slots, blackjack, roulette, video poker, and more. Apple’s anti-gambling stance means these games are not officially supported, but they give serious gamers an excellent opportunity to play and win using their Apple mobile devices.
