Playboy Brings Blackjack to Cancun
Dec 4, 2010
The opening of the new Playboy casino in Cancun will begin on Saturday with a private party, then on Sunday the casino will open its doors to the public.
“I am pleased to bring the Playboy Club to Mexico for the first time and to combine the sexy sophistication of the Playboy brand with the international allure of Cancun,” says Playboy founder Hugh Hefner.
The 12,000 square foot casino offers a full range of games, including slot machines, roulette, poker, and blackjack card games. It also includes a dedicated betting parlor where sports fans can gather to wager on American football, soccer, baseball and basketball games, and other major international sports events.
Iconic “Playboy Bunnies” have been hired from countries around the world, including Argentina, Cuba, Canada, Russia and Mexico. They will serve as hostesses, cocktail servers, and dealers.
Playboy Cancun casino intends to become heavily involved with charity organizations, donating a portion of its profits to good causes. The Red Cross is already on the list, but more charities may receive donations in the future.
This new casino is a sign that Playboy is serious about getting back into the gambling business. Last month it was announced that blackjack was headed to London, Playboy style, with plans to open up a Playboy casino in Mayfair next spring. Playboy was big in the American casino scene in the 60s, but their casino days slowed down by the early 80s.
Last year Playboy tried their hand at running an online blackjack casino, but the site shut down soon after it opened due to disappointing financial returns.
