Ubuntu for mobile devices

Mobile casino gamers will be able to enjoy perks and speed offered by Ubuntu OS on their mobile devices starting 2014.

Canonical, the maker of Linux-based Ubuntu OS, has announced plans to introduce the mobile version of their operating system in early 2014. The software producer has already shown off the mobile OS, which works on the same basic kernel and drivers as Android, but provides a completely new navigation and UI.

One of the biggest differences between the two OSs is a heavier focus on gesture navigation in Ubuntu. Mobile casino fans will be able to use all four corners of the screen to perform a gesture on Ubuntu-powered devices. Swiping in every direction will open a different function or a menu.

The upcoming OS will also place a heavier emphasis on HTML5 applications, providing them with a high priority meaning they will able to show notifications similar to native apps. There will also be Ubuntu-specific native apps. It’s yet unknown if mobile casino software will be designed specifically for the new OS.

Unlike Android, Ubuntu will not use the Dalvik Virtual Machine, meaning the apps will not be compatible between the two systems. However, the absence of virtual machine will most probably mean even faster and better performance than that of Android.

Another big difference will be the lockscreen for smartphones, where all controlling gestures will be accessible right from the screen, eliminating the need to unlock first. The screen will also display most important info from the installed applications.

Ubuntu will also allow users to dock the device and then create a desktop PC experience through connecting to a keyboard and a mouse.

Currently the launch of the new OS is set for early 2014, so the company a whole year to improve and polish the OS. We will continue to monitor the topic and deliver the latest developments.
