Android OS leads mobile world
Android – #1 OS

Mobile gamers still prefer Android based smartphones over any other mobile OS for their mobile gaming needs.

Google’s Android is the leading mobile device in 35 out of 56 global markets, thus retaining its crown as the number 1 mobile OS in the world. According to latest research from Canalys, 51.9 million Android powered units were shipped in Q2 2011, mainly due to growing popularity of Android casinos.

The impressive number of units sold, represents a whopping 379 percent increase compared to last year. Android impressed fans of mobile casinos by capturing 48 percent of the total mobile OS market share. Strong performance of the Android powered Samsung Galaxy S II is also behind its huge success.

Apple shipped 20.3 million smartphones, overtaking Nokia and capturing second place with 19 percent market share. Apple toppled Nokia as the top smartphone manufacturer. RIM’s BlackBerry lost market share, despite increasing global shipments by 11 percent.

Windows mobile gambling has not yet helped the Windows Phone OS increase its market penetration. It now represents just 1 percent of the total with less than 1.5 million mobile devices shipped.

Mobile industry experts agree that mobile casino games will play an ever-increasing role in sales of smartphones. We can expect a much tougher competition for supremacy in the coming years. Mobile gamers’ preferences might shift very quickly in case any manufacturer comes up with something extraordinary.
