Mobile Sportsbook Developers Hitpost Bought Onboard to Boost Yahoo Mobile

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has kept her word when it comes to boosting the web giant’s mobile presence, so it was no surprise when they made a move for mobile sports betting app developer Hitpost, most famous for their Fantasy Football offerings.

With their most popular app, Sports Bet, attracting between 1 million and 5 million installs, the mobile sportsbook specialist will add a new dimension to Yahoo’s portfolio, something that Mayer has been keen to do since she took over last year.

Along with the sports betting side of things, Hitpost have also created a series of apps that facilitate talk and discussion on players and fantasy football, as well as live polls and other features. The small team will be adding their experience to a company still struggling to find a way past the giant of the internet world, Google, after losing major ground to them in the early 2000’s.

The move comes after Yahoo picked up another startup focusing on sports apps, Bignoggins. It will be interesting to see whether they continue to move into the Android and iPhone gambling sphere, or whether this was a one off acquisition to boost their sports coverage on mobile devices. Whatever happens, it’s probably a good idea to not write off the internet giant just yet.
