Taiwanese tech news website DigiTimes has leaked information pointing to an April release date for the upcoming Apple iPad 2.

This information apparently comes from a Taiwanese electronics manufacturer, who says Apple is slated to begin shipping the new mobile tablet device by the end of February.

There are lots of rumors at this point about what the new device will offer, but are any of these features going to improve the world of mobile gambling?

FaceTime
The iPad 2 is said to have a new front-facing camera that will allow for video chatting with the new FaceTime app. This will add a new social dimension to the device. While it is possible that this technology might one day be incorporated into iPad poker games, it probably won’t have much of an impact on the casino scene.

Faster processor, more RAM
This is a general conclusion that most have agreed on – the iPad 2 will get a speed boost. This will certainly make apps run faster and smoother, and could well improve the average user’s iPad casino experience.

Retina Display
The inclusion of the new Apple’s new Retina Display in the iPad 2 is not yet confirmed. The recently launched iPhone 4 includes the new ultra-sharp displays, so most users are hopeful that the iPad 2 will offer them as well.

iOS 4
The hardware changes that may be coming to the iPad 2 are all well and good, but the inclusion of iOS 4 will be the most welcome new features. This new OS unites all Apple products, meaning that iPhone casino games will work perfectly well on the new iPad, giving gamblers access to a wider variety of touch casino games than previously.

More information is soon to come as Apple prepares to launch this new gadget. While it’s certain that the iPhone 2 will bring with it a host of new features, it won’t be until Apple makes an official announcement that we can say for sure what the new device will bring to the world of mobile gambling.
