New 3D mobile display technology offers a unique glimpse into what may be the future of mobile gaming technology.

Japan’s largest mobile carrier NTT DoCoMo recently unveiled an exciting new bit of technological wizardry at the Ceatec Japan 2010 trade show. It is a prototype mobile display that offers an amazing 3D experience – without the need for special glasses.

The prototype is still in early stages, but what it showed is impressive. It demonstrated how the device combines input from the user (via a stylus), and in turned offered unique forced feedback response, creating a new level of interaction never before seen in a mobile device.

The display showed a 3D chameleon, which follows the movements of the stylus by turning its head. When the tip of the stylus touches the screen, the chameleon flicks out its tongue, and the stylus jumps away from the device.

The technology is complicated, involving camera tracking, magnets, and electrical currents. The prototype device is also quite big – definitely not something that could fit in a purse or pocket. But despite the current limitations, this 3D mobile display technology could well represent the future of mobile gaming.

This sort of display would probably be too awkward for every-day tasks, but if combined with the current state of mobile casino games, the possibilities are endless. Current mobile casinos already make good use of mobile technology. Devices with touch screens are especially interactive, allowing players to control mobile slots and poker games using multi-touch displays.

These Android casinos and iPhone casinos already offer an impressive range of real-money casino titles, and their popularity only continues to increase. But one thing is certain: winning a million dollar slots jackpot on your mobile phone while sitting on a bus would be even more exciting if the whole thing happens in 3D!
