bandits rob blackjack
Casino Robbery

In one of the most brazen armed robberies in history, 4 men armed with AK-47 robbed Luxemburg’s only casino, escaping with close to 5 million euros.

In a spectacular raid on the Casino 2000 in Bad Mondorf, Luxemburg four heavily armed bandits escaped with 3-5 million Euros in loot. Luxemburg, a tiny country wedged between Germany and France has some of the strictest gambling laws and permits only one legal casino – Casino 2000 throughout the entire country.

The four casino robbers, armed with AK-47 machine guns marched inside the casino as over 800 guests were gambling at high-stakes blackjack card games. The four intruders immediately fired into the ceiling, disrupting the blackjack tournament as well as scaring the patrons.

The drama began around 2 in the morning in what patrons described as being straight out of an American crime novel or a Hollywood movie. The ski mask wearing bandits quickly took control of the casino floor, making the blackjack players lie prone on the floor. One of the bandits began to crack open the bullet proof glass which encased the casino cages while the other robbers began to systematically loot both gamblers and casino tables.

Once all the available chips and money was placed inside duffle bags the bandits grabbed two casino employees as hostages and quickly withdrew from the casino. Once outside, the bandits jumped into a BMW 3 Series, let go of the hostages and spend away into the night.

Quickly implementing the well practiced casino strategy in case of a robbery, security quickly alerted the neighboring countries and roadblocks were setup. The French police spotted the car travelling at a high rate of speed south on Thionvielle Highway but were unable to catch up and eventually lost the BMW.

Police are still not sure of the total amount stolen but it is believed to be in the range of 3-5 million Euros.
