The NVIDIA Tegra 4 mobile processor has been officially announced by the manufacturer, sending a roar of happy cheers across the internet.

The Tegra 4 has already surfaced throughout various mobile casino forums under the codename “Wayne”. The chipset is currently said to be the world’s fastest mobile processor. It utilizes four ARM Cortex-A15 cores together with 2nd generation battery saver core.

The chipset’s performance is rumored to be 2.6 times faster than that of the predecessor, Tegra 3. The new SoC also has 72 custom GPU cores, which produce 6 times the power of the GPU included on the Tegra 3. Naturally, this not only means faster performance of mobile casino games and other apps, but the possibility to playback 4K content, which is a first for a mobile processor.

Other features of the new chipset include the Computational Photography Architecture, which will reduce the time for all camera-related functions including HDR, which takes multiple pictures one after another. The reduction of times in between taking the photos will result in much clearer photos.

The bad news is that the Tegra 4 doesn’t have an integrated LTE modem, but offers optional Icera i500 chipset – supporting the 4G LTE technology.

Another improvement on the Tegra 3, is the battery life. The manufacturer says the Tegra 4 needs 45 percent less power than the predecessor, meaning up to 14 hours of HD video playback on any smartphone.

As the situation stands right now, the only mobile device known to run on Tegra 4 is NVIDIA’s recently announced gaming console Project SHIELD. However, it’s almost certain that major smartphone manufacturers will form a line to include the new SoC in their upcoming smartphones’ specs lists.
