Part II of II – continued from here.

2. You are due a win soon.

This is a huge myth, not only in Blackjack but in every other form of gambling, particularly online (since the deck gets shuffled after every hand), and it’s one that gets players into trouble every single day.

Imagine a situation where the dealer has won 12 hands straight. That seems astonishing, and you can’t help but feel that you’re due to win soon, so you start putting more money down, knowing that it’s your turn to win next.

This is terrible strategy, because your feelings in this situation would be 100% wrong.

The best way to understand why is to remember that every hand is played separate from every other hand. The outcome of one hand has absolutely no effect on the outcome of the next hand, or any hand after that. Every new hand has the exact same odds as the one before it, no matter how many you have won or lost.

The best way to get over this idea is to play every single hand as though it were your first.

1. The aim in Blackjack is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over.

Here it is, the biggest myth in the all world of Blackjack. Many players think this is the goal of the game – not just beginners, but also people who have been playing for years.

But here’s the truth: the aim of Blackjack is not to get as close to 21 as possible – the aim is just to beat the dealer.

Many players make the mistake of focusing on their own cards, while not paying attention to what the dealer has. Instead, your decision on how to play needs to consider both your hand and the dealer’s hand.

It’s still important, of course, to try to get a bigger hand, but it’s equally important to know when to Stand. Blackjack strategy is subtle, and takes practice. Read more strategy guides here, and with practice, you can become a great Blackjack player!
