CryptoLogic Limited, the provider of casino games to Internet casinos, has announced that its second-quarter total revenues will be down from the first quarter of 2010 – and they’re blaming blackjack players for it.

“Despite the World Cup,” read the statement by CryptoLogic officials in part, “Casino Revenue showed a modest gain quarter-on-quarter but [revenue] was lower than anticipated due to a substantial swing in player preferences for Blackjack and Roulette.”

The wording seems a bit vague there and one is left wondering whether more players are forsaking slot games (provider of anywhere from 70% to 95% of revenues to nearly any land-based or online casino) for blackjack and roulette or vice versa. It could even be that players are eschewing Cryptologic blackjack for other gambling websites’ blackjack offerings or were simply investing more gambling money in World Cup betting, as many online casinos had feared.

The statement went on to note that “Branded games revenue grew by approximately 20% compared to Q1 2010, despite some licensees experiencing a negative impact from the World Cup.” Also cited for the financial downswing was the delay to the installation of Cryptologic games at Betsafe, a move which was pushed back to this month.

Cryptologic’s comprehensive second-quarter results will be released to the public on August 12.
