Unity to release version that offers support for cross platform 2D gaming, including mobile

Unity, the world’s premier cross platform gaming engine, has announced a new version – 4.3 – which is offering developers explicit 2D support. With a lot of focus on 3D gaming in recent years, this shift is great news for the development of mobile casino games .

The platform allows developers to write code which can be used across every platform: from PC to games consoles and smartphones. This means that iPad gambling apps will use the same code as online casinos, freeing up developers to spend more time on innovation. The hope is that this will make the mobile gambling experience that much better.

In the past year, mobile gambling has really taken off, with a host of iPhone and Android casinos released, as well as the now ubiquitous sportsbook apps. With casinos and sportsbooks spending a lot of time and money on the mobile market, gambling on the go has gone through the roof.

Another option for casinos is the potential for releasing games on consoles. With live marketplaces on all the major consoles these days, developers have an opportunity to tap into an as yet untried market. With this Unity development, it couldn’t be easier to develop multi-platform support and integration: gamblers will have a huge choice when it comes to games in the future. Perhaps every slot will be available on the go in a year or two.
