Banned gamblers in Ohio
Banned gambler

Like heroine addicts, compulsive gamblers should enter rehab.

Compulsive gambling as problem gambling news report is a habit which needs to be treated.

Those runaway gamblers and blackjack losers need help. Although gambling can be fun, and even profitable, excessive abuse becomes a problem. That’s why all over the world the gambling authorities decided to establish the so-called self-exclusion programs.

In some places, a gambler can exclude himself or herself and even face prison for playing at such an earthly competition as a blackjack tournament. In other places, such as Ohio, a gambler can ban himself from a casino for a lifetime. If she or he gambles, the player, if caught, will forsake all the winnings. How about asking for the money lost? No way, we don’t think a casino will return funds to a self-excluded gambler.

This raises questions as to how to handle problem gamblers if self-exclusion programs become a joke. Hard to say, but psychiatric treatment may be the only way if counseling fails.

The issue is that most problem gamblers have problems anyway, be it alcoholism or drug addiction. This may actually be beyond the responsibility of casinos, although these are blamed. The legislators need to think deeper and hire expert gambling consultants to dig into the issue.

As Ohio self-excluded gambler case shows, the problems the gambler showed go beyond simple gambling addiction. As renowned psychiatrists, and less-trained witch psychologists agree, the Ohio man who made the news after swearing not to gamble in front of the picture of his dead father, may be an unstable person, which even the toughest gambling laws can’t stop.

Treat the problems, not the causes. This is something the American legislators can’t understand.
