While cleaning up leaves and debris after Hurricane Sandy, a long Island Man finds a winning lottery scratch card worth $1m and cleans up in more ways than one!

Smart strategies certainly have their place in making big wins but sometimes dumb luck is all you need. It’s like something from the movies or a real life Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but instead of a golden ticket, there’s a lottery ticket.

Marvin Rosales-Martinez, from Long Island finds fortune in a most unlikely place. Mr. Rosales-Martinez was sweeping up leaves in the wake of Hurricane Sandy and finds within the trash and debris something that could not be classed as trash at all.

Some delight after the devastation

Hurricane Sandy (also known as “Superstorm Sandy”) was the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, as well as the second-costliest hurricane in United States history.

The devastation was huge. The misery it caused, to many thousands of people, was immense. The damage to property and to city infrastructures was great. Amidst all the stories of loss and damage, there is this tidbit of gambling news of a man who didn’t take the gamble of buying a lottery ticket. He took a gig to help clean up the damage and it changed his life.
