The Polish police will now get tougher on Euro 2012 Football Championships’ hooligans after Warsaw riots.

According to Euro 2012 news, nearly 200 football hooligans were arrested during clashes among Poles and Russians.

As 4,500 Russian football fans marched through Warsaw towards the National Stadium for Poland-Russia match, the Polish hooligans ceaselessly attacked them as well as the police, while the Russians fully retaliated. It is estimated that 15 people have been injured and that doesn’t account for minor fighting scars such as broken noses or knocked out teeth.

Already, several Polish hooligans received jail sentences ranging from three to five months. In addition, four foreigners were imprisoned. The Polish president, Komorowski, declared that the street fights tarnished the reputation of Poland. Meanwhile, the police is looking at video footage as more hooligans will be hunted and brought to courts.

The police is likely to get much tougher if additional clashes take place. Some media sources state that the riot police may go as far as using dogs that were trained to bite testicles. Water cannons and rubber bullets are ready, and even live ammo may be used in extreme situations, such as endangerment of security forces’ lives. Furthermore, the police will not tolerate drunkedness as this leads to more fighting.

On the match front

So far, the Irish team after two humiliating losses is already out of the tournament, although it will need to play one more game. The Irish lost seven goals in two games, while shooting only one. This is certainly a disaster for football betting punters who put stakes on this team.

The Netherlands, a team which made it to the final of 2010 World Cup, is also nearly out after two lost games. However, a win and a lucky outcome in the other group match, theoretically gives the Dutch a chance to qualify to the quarter-finals with only three points.

The hosts, Poland and Ukraine, retain realistic chances for the next round, while Germany is already qualified. More excitement is in the pipeline.
